Absolutely enjoyed my 1.5yrs at SUNY Albany after transferring from a private university. It was close to home and got the work done to get that bachelors degree. Their commuter community was excellent with designated commuter area for students to connect or a place to do homework. I joined the anti-human trafficking club after learning about it in international policy course and helped out with some fundraising and posters. I even interned at the International Student scholars office for Dr. Elliott director of ISSS. He is one of the smartest and nicest professors that I’ve met and took a class from. To this day (I graduated 6yrs ago), I still connect with him as a mentor and sometimes we go out for coffee when I’m back in the upstate NY area.
Their business school you have to maintain a 5.5 GPA in order to stay in the program. Usually after a semester of taking business courses, 60-70% of business students dropped bc they cannot maintain the high GPA standards. I was one of them unfortunately, but I was able to use my business course credits towards a Business administration minor.
Luckily at UAlbany there are plenty of other excellent programs in sciences, liberal arts or engineering. I was able to transfer to the liberal arts - urban planning department for globalization studies major. Dr Brumes?! I forgot his name was the most helpful advisor at UAlbany. He helped me so much for counseling the 300,400 level international courses to take in order to graduate quickly. Bc I transferred from a private school, those business and gen ed credits were able to transfer over to the urban planning globalization program. I even took a summer semester to complete part of the curriculum while working part time jobs. I was able to graduate with my BAs within 1.5yrs at UAlbany.
On the bright side, I only took out at most $5k in loans and paid it off within 2yrs after finding full jobs in CA.
High-quality education for a reasonable price! Beautiful & green 🌳🌲 campus with state of the art educational and sports facilities. Located in the capital of New York, Albany. Only 45 minutes away from the Adirondack mountains. Hundreds, if not thousands of lakes 💧and hiking 🥾⛰ trails within reasonable driving distance. …
Third rate school for fourth rate students. A school that has an acceptance rate of 68% and is flooded with faculty who wished they could’ve worked somewhere else (words from my own research advisor).
This is the bottom of the bottom. It’s an ugly, prison-like campus design architected by a man who designed other schools (e.g. Harvey Mudd College) who has the distinction of designing “one of America’s ugliest college campuses”. This says nothing about the school’s academics, it’s just another example of how soulless and uninspired this school is.
This school has no academic reputation, and I would challenge anyone to prove that it’s even a good SUNY school compared to something like Stony Brook.
Don’t send your kids here, and if you’re someone thinking about attending here…just don’t.
I visited this university today and I was thrilled at the architecture. There’s this inexplicable aura of tranquility and calmness. It’s so serene and I felt so much at home that I almost didn’t want to leave. I wish we had schools like this Africa with so much ambience of love
SUNY Albany is giving out thousands of degrees each year. I now have 84 graduate credits for a degree that requires 32. I went to another school to get my MFA degree since SUNY Albany refused to fulfill their obligation. The staff were mostly NYC artists commuting a few days a week. Their ego surpassed their ability to teach and I got caught in the middle. I was a certified art teacher with 10 years of experience in the classroom so I knew what good and bad teaching required. Professors are not required to take a single class in teaching and answer to no one when they do a bad job. After a year of grad studies and 10,000 in financial aide I received 24 useless credits and blocked from receiving my degree. I filed a grievance with the university but was coerced into dropping it under false pretenses. I am a New Yorker since birth and wanted a degree from my home state. I guess that’s just to much to expect. I feel scammed again by NY state. I now live 1200 miles away. I cannot recommend this University and encourage you to look beyond the borders of New York. I wish you well.
While there are quite a few architectural gems, the overall ambiance is quite depressing. The columns, although visually attractive at first, become a bit overdone as all of the buildings look similar. Very cookie cutter.
Beautiful campus close to where I spend my summers. From 2010 to 2020, they supported a website of mine.
Beautiful and peaceful University environment. Conducive for learning.
